Costa del Sol apartment

Location

The apartment is located in the La Cala Hills area of Mijas Costa, and is ideally placed as a base for travelling along the coast or exploring inland.

The nearest large town is Fuengirola, 5km away. It is a great town for shopping, and has a lively sea front with several kilometers of sandy beach. There are plenty of restaurants, bars and night life.

Fuengirola Zoo is well worth a visit. It is far nicer than most zoo’s and is open late into the night during summer. It has a couple of restaurants so you can combine your evening meal with some nocturnal animal spotting.

Children will also love the Aquapark on the outskirts of Fuengirola

La Cala seafront

La Cala is the nearest beach resort to the apartment. It takes around 8 minutes to drive there.

It has a long unspoilt sandy beach, without doubt one of the best on the Costa del Sol.

La Cala is an easy going town with a good selection of restaurants and just a few bars. There are no high rise buildings casting shadows.

Restaurant Arroyo on the beach serves good seafood in a nice atmosphere and is ideal for lunch. There is a children’s play area right beside the deck, and a pirate boat out front, so they’ll be happy.

Nearby is the Hippodrome horse racing track, with night time races during summer.

Driving on the Costa del Sol

The roads are generally very good and easy to use. First time visitors will soon get the hang of entering and exiting the main motorway (A7)

The motorway and all main roads are very well sign posted

Traffic on the A7 is normally fast moving, but can get busy at rush hours especially around Marbella and Malaga

There are plenty of places for day trips in the car;

Follow the coast west and down into  Gibraltar, a little further to windsurfers paradise at Tarifa. Make a day trip to Morocco from Algeciras (or 35 minutes in catamaran from Tarifa)

For a taste of Andalucia take the road inland from Marbella up through the mountains to Ronda. This is a winding road with spectacular scenery, but nervous drivers should leave it out

Heading east, Malaga city is well worth a visit, where you can lounge around in the old town, do some shopping, or visit the Picasso Museum

For culture vultures, Granada and the Alhambra are a 2 hour drive away. An overnight stay might be worth considering

Driving to the apartment from Malaga airport

The drive from Malaga airport takes around 35 minutes. Follow signs for Cadiz, Marbella, Fuengirola, which bring you onto the A7 motorway. Remaining on the motorway for around 25km, the apartment can be reached from a turn off at Fuengirola, or better still, stay on the motorway until La Cala before turning off. This is a nicer road, and although it adds a few kilometers it doesn’t take much longer.

Guests coming to the apartment will be given full directions before they depart.

The road from the apartment down to La Cala is a nice easy, winding drive. It takes around 8 minutes at a relaxed pace. Then you can park up for a day at the beach, or hop on the A7 for some exploring, before returning to the peace and quiet of La Cala Hills.
